there is a one of the oldest cinema hall star theatre is situated in this place.it is a heritage property of the kolkata.There was a lot of history involved with this place.the first  bengali commercial motion picture was released in here. Since 1830 it is used to be a commercial theatre institution.many famous plays are staged in this platform. The renowned personality Girish Chandra Ghosh one of the first to direct and produce plays at the star theatre.so this place has a historical greatness.

It is heard that in the time of world War || Japanese had dropped a bomb at kasi bose lane in Hatibagan. But the bomb didn't explode. Kasi bose lane is famous  place for durga puja.

ORIGIN OF THE NAME

However let's talks about it's name. Why There's name like this? In bengali Hati means elephant and bagan means garden. So simply the name was came from elephant garden. It is said that in 1757 Nawab siraj-ud-daulah came to kolkata, during the battle of plassey. His elephant was posted in this area. Since then the area was came to be known as Hatibagan. So the place has many historical aspects. So All the streets and alleys,the salty walls of house have witnessed many incidents and have been facing the sky for years.
